Errorland examines the island as a topos of insignificance. Drawing from an uncanny error in the edition of the Gerard Mercator (1512-1594) atlas, (published in Amsterdam in 1606 by Jodocus Hondius (1563-1612)) the work puts into question the ontology of a small state. In the Utrecht copy shown here the map of Cyprus has been included twice: one time incorrectly representing the island of Cuba.
