We can never go back again, that much is certain. The past is still too close to us. Exhibition at Forest Park Hotel, organized by CutContemporary Fine Arts Lab

Klitsa Antoniou activates with her work a special place within the Forest Park Hotel. Through her visual arts intervention, the indoor pool hall, a place of entertainment and leisure, is elevated to a peculiar exhibition topology. With the wall installation I am so glad it cannot happen twice the fever of first love, a phrase borrowed from Daphne du Maurier’s Rebecca (1938), Antoniou reverses the direction of the wooden letters in a way that renders them illegible and indecipherable. Therefore, the reversed phrase can only be read through its reflection upon the pool water. As Foucault reminds us, this watery mirror can be seen as a simultaneous utopia and heterotopia, functioning as an intermediary joint experience. Last, the artist probes into obsessive love, memories and the unsatisfaction of human relations; the limits between real and nonreal.
